Terms of Use

Terms of Use

Effective 13 September 2026 · Last updated 13 September 2026

1. Agreement to terms

By downloading, installing or using Highlight - Medical Flashnotes ("Highlight", "the App"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

Highlight is operated by MedPlay Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales.

2. Description of the service

Highlight is an educational reference and revision app for medical students and doctors. It provides concise notes on medical conditions in clinical and plain-English registers, quick-reference summaries, red-flag lists, a Differential Revision feature for practising textbook presentations, and tools to share plain-English summaries.

The App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We may add, change or remove features and content at any time.

3. Educational use only - not a medical device

Highlight is a revision tool. It is not a medical device, and it does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

The App is intended to help medical students and doctors learn and revise. It is not intended for, and must not be used in, the diagnosis, monitoring, treatment or management of any individual patient. Differential Revision returns conditions that classically match a textbook-style presentation for revision purposes; it is not a probability, a diagnosis or a triage tool, and it must not be used with real patient information.

Nothing in the App replaces clinical training, supervision, local guidelines, professional judgement or a consultation with a qualified healthcare professional. If you are a member of the public with a health concern, contact your GP, call NHS 111, or in an emergency call 999.

Content is written and reviewed with care, but medicine changes and errors are possible. We do not warrant that content is complete, current or error-free. You use the App's content at your own risk and remain responsible for your own clinical practice.

4. Eligibility

The App is intended for medical students and qualified healthcare professionals. You must be at least 16 years old to use it.

5. Your data

Highlight does not require an account. A small amount of pseudonymous data is stored on our servers as described in our Privacy Policy. You can delete this data and reset the App at any time from Settings.

You must not enter identifiable patient information into the App. Search and Differential Revision text is processed only on your device, but you remain responsible for complying with your professional and employer confidentiality obligations.

6. Subscriptions and payments

Highlight offers a free tier with a limited set of conditions and a paid subscription, Highlight Pro, which unlocks the full library and Pro features.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate access for anyone who breaches these terms.

8. Intellectual property

The App and all of its content - text, design, code, graphics, icons and trademarks - are owned by MedPlay Ltd or its licensors and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App for your own education. All other rights are reserved.

Plain-English summaries shared from the App may be passed on for personal, non-commercial use, provided the Highlight attribution is retained.

9. Third-party services

The App relies on the following third parties, whose terms and privacy policies apply to their services:

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MedPlay Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the App or its content, including any loss arising from reliance on the content in clinical practice, examinations or otherwise.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the App is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or £50, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify MedPlay Ltd against claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the App, or your use of the App's content in the care of any patient.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date shows when. If changes are material, we will notify you in the App or by other reasonable means. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

13. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or terminate your access for conduct that breaches these terms or harms the service or other users. On termination your licence ends; data on your device remains until you delete the App, and server-side data is handled as set out in the Privacy Policy.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers resident elsewhere in the UK may bring proceedings in their local courts.
